Picoxystrobin – Usage

Picoxystrobin, a strobilurin analogue, is a fungicide used to control a wide range of fungal diseases, including yellow and brown rusts, crown rusts, powdery mildew, sooty mold, net blotch, leaf blotch, and tan spot on cereal crops such as wheat, barley, oats, and rye. It works by inhibiting electron transfer in mitochondria, thereby suppressing fungal respiration, disrupting metabolism, and stopping the growth of the target fungi. Picoxystrobin offers both preventive and curative activity. It can be used as a standalone fungicide or in combination with other fungicides, such as cyproconazole and cyprodinil.

Picoxystrobin (methyl (E)-3-methoxy-2-[2-(6-trifluoromethyl-2-pyridyloxymethyl)phenyl]acrylate) from Zeneca Agrochemicals (now Syngenta Crop Protection) was first described by Godwin et al. (33) and has been developed for broad-spectrum control of cereal diseases. The molecule’s redistribution properties, combining xylem systemicity and vapour phase activity, are considered important for achieving high levels of control against a range of diseases. Picoxystrobin has favourable safety and environmental profiles and contributes to improved grain yield and quality. It is a methoxyacrylate strobilurin fungicide designed for the control of a wide range of cereal diseases. Agricultural fungicide.
